Hannah Rankin retained her IBO and WBA super welterweight titles with a dominant victory against Alejandra Ayala at a packed Hydro on Friday night.
However, the Luss-born fighter said her immediate thoughts were with her opponent, who was taken to hospital after the bout – where she is said to be in a “stable” condition, after twice undergoing surgery.
A statement from promoters Fight Academy said: “The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Dennis Hobson Promotions, Fight Academy and Fightzone are with Alejandra Ayala.
“Following Friday’s WBA and IBO World Championship bout with Hannah Rankin, Alejandra was admitted to hospital where she is said to be in a stable condition.
“We are in touch with Alejandra’s family and management team and offer them our full support. Hannah is aware and was deeply concerned to learn of her brave opponent’s condition.
“We will update everyone when we can and when it’s appropriate to do so, but right now our thoughts are with Alejandra and her family.”
Rankin herself tweeted: “My thoughts, prayers and good wishes are with Alejandra and her family and team at this time.
“Once again thank you Scotland for supporting our fight and can we all keep Alejandra and her team in your thoughts for a speedy recovery.”
In front of a 4,500 strong crowd, Rankin retained her title after a devastating 10th-round stoppage.
After a tense opening Rankin looked to get stronger as the fight wore on, closing the seventh round with a superb flurry of punches.
Ayala continued admirably despite a relentless showing from Rankin in the eighth and ninth rounds, before the bout was finally stopped in the 10th after another savage collection of punches from Rankin.
