Luke Williams sensed 'nervousness' amongst his Notts County players in Bromley draw

Luke Williams felt his Notts County side showed signs of nervousness during their 1-1 draw with Bromley at Meadow Lane on Tuesday evening.

The Magpies have enjoyed an excellent start to the National League campaign, sitting top of the table after 17 games, losing just once to Dorking Wanderers back in September.

But since that defeat at Meadowbank Park, Notts have embarked on a seven-game winning run, including victories over York, Wrexham and Wealdstone in that period.

But the visit of Andy Woodman's side brought an end to that run, with Adam Chicksen's sixth goal of the season cancelled out by Michael Cheek's second half header.

In what was a frustrating evening for the Magpies, there were chances for Williams' side to maintain their three-point lead at the summit of the table, with Macaulay Langstaff, Cedwyn Scott and Ruben Rodrigues all hitting the woodwork, with Bromley 'keeper Tom Smith producing a number of important saves throughout.

Speaking after the game, the Notts boss was disappointed with how his side controlled the game having gone a goal in front, suggesting some of his side looked nervous as Bromley and allowed the visitors a way back into the contest.

"It's disappointing, but I think it is more disappointing because we were 1-0 up," said Williams.

"Being 1-0 up we should be able to control the game, not be so nervous. Maybe there is pressure building on the players and maybe at 1-0 they can do a little bit less.

"As soon as you do a little bit less, you cause problems for yourselves.

"When you don't make enough of an angle and don't try to step forward with the ball and close gaps between you and your team-mates to pass a ball properly, and you get a bit lazy, you cause more problems.

"And the players have to understand that and that's what we spoke about in the changing rooms.

"When you control the game and go one-nil up, I don't see why they can't control this opposition more, but they didn't manage to do it tonight."
