Luke Williams reveals Macaulay Langstaff decision following England C call-up

Luke Williams has insisted he is looking forward to seeing Macaulay Langstaff in action for the England C team when they take on Wales later this month.

The Magpies top scorer was selected in Paul Fairclough's provisional 25-man squad for their upcoming friendly that takes place at Altrincham's J.Davidson Stadium on March 21.

Following Notts' National League fixture with Dorking Wanderers this weekend, the final 16-man squad will be named - with Langstaff himself looking to add to his 33-goal haul as he closes in on adding two more records to his already growing collection.

The opportunity to showcase his talents on the international stage is nothing short of deserved, with the Magpies chief reiterating his excitement about the opportunity presented to the 26-year-old.

"The boy is really buzzing about that, and he deserves that recognition I believe," said Williams.

"I am sure that when he goes there everyone is going to see his qualities and enjoy working with him because he is such a great lad as well.

"We are delighted for him, it's great recognition of what he has done so far this season."

But it has brought questions to the table as to whether sending the National League's top scorer away with the squad could be considered a risk given the extraordinary title race taking place in the fifth tier.

Following Wrexham's convincing 4-0 win over Dagenham and Redbridge in midweek, Phil Parkinson's side opened up a four-point gap at the top of the table, with 10 games left to play.

The England C fixture is sandwiched in between Notts' trip to Barnet on March 18 before welcoming Scunthorpe United to Meadow Lane the following Saturday, with the risk of losing Langstaff during that time not fazing the Magpies chief.

"He doesn't miss anything for us so it is not like he is going to go and play far away and miss one or two games like some of the other times when you lose players to international duty.

"It does not make a huge difference to us - Macca is so robust and of course, it goes without saying that I would never want him to be at risk, but there are certain things you have to accept.

"He has been called up and it's a huge thing, and you have to accept that and that is absolutely fine and we look forward to seeing how he gets on there and then having him back for the following weekend."
