Luke Williams identifies 'smart' Notts County preparations ahead of Scunthorpe fixture

Notts County boss Luke Williams insists his side must be smart about their preparations ahead of their National League fixture with Scunthorpe this weekend.

The Magpies' fixture at Glanford Park was changed to a 12:30pm kick-off in line with the World Cup fixtures in Qatar, with the runners up of Group B featuring England and Wales, kicking off at 3pm on the same day.

To avoid any clash with any of the home nations' potential involvement in the round of 16, all fixtures across the league are starting at 12:30pm.

And with that early kick-off, Williams pinpointed smart preparations as pivotal for his side, identifying his players' eating habits as vital ahead of their trip to Glanford Park.

"We need to be very smart about our work on Friday because we have less time to recover than you would, even a few hours make a difference.

"We have to be really focused on making the final preparations on Friday the correct ones and we have to make sure that everyone eats an unusual meal for that time of day, like a lunch type meal for breakfast.

"But the players have experience of that type of thing before, so we have to make sure that we are doing everything appropriately to give the guys the best chance or performing well on the day."

It was announced earlier this week that interim Iron boss Tony Daws had stepped down from his role as first-team coach, with Michael Nelson taking charge of this weekend's game.

And while this could provide an alteration in preparations towards the game, the Notts boss insisted that he is solely focused on the players Scunthorpe have at their disposal, rather than who is managing them.

"I think we are aware of the situation and there may be a formation or a team selection that we could not anticipate because someone has new ideas.

"We need to not worry about what could happen but try to look at the players that they have available to them and get an idea of the qualities of their players and what they are most likely to do."
