Luke Williams explains 'frustrating' Notts County draw and shifts focus to timely break

Luke Williams has reiterated his frustrations at not taking important opportunities during Notts County's goalless draw with Yeovil.

The Magpies were forced to share the spoils with Mark Cooper's side, failing to score at Meadow Lane for the first time in 39 matches as a record National League attendance watched on.

But Notts had chances to ensure they remained at the summit of the table, with Kyle Cameron seeing his header cleared off the line before Adam Chicksen headed over from close range in injury time.

The result sees Williams' side drop to second in the table following Wrexham's victory over Aldershot, with Chesterfield closing the gap to five points after their 2-0 win over Solihull Moors.

Speaking after the game, the Magpies boss felt his side should have won the game but explained that keeping the Glovers from scoring was the bare minimum he expected from that performance.

"I think we should have won the game; I can't remember many moments they had at the other end that was a particular threat on our goal.

"For me that is the most important thing, because the worst-case scenario that it should be 0-0, that if you create so many chances and don't score, but the bare minimum is to stop the other team from scoring.

"Yes, it is frustrating, but I don't think we could have done anything more in the game."

A lot of the time during the game it was very much attack v defence, with Yeovil content on putting as many bodies as possible behind the ball to make them extremely hard to break down.

And Williams felt disappointed his side could not provide a goal for the 16,511 fans inside Meadow Lane.

"If you are going to play out a 0-0, you need to ensure you provide lots of box entries and provide those moments for the crowd to see what we are trying to achieve.

"But of course, I would have loved them to have seen two or three goals and to see the way we normally play and enjoy it more, but unfortunately we could not deliver the goal.

"To be really successful you have to completely shut the door on your opponents, and I think they were successful in doing that.

"We managed to put the ball in front of the goalkeeper and create chances, and if we had scored then you can say it didn't work, but on the day, they walk away with a point."

The Magpies will now have to wait two weeks to make amends for the result, with Barnet's progression to the second round of the FA Cup forcing their fixture next weekend to be rescheduled.

Notts will travel to Scunthorpe in their next fixture and Williams explained what his side must to during the break to ensure they keep pace with the league leaders.

"We now need to use the time correctly to improve our fitness and our performance as much as we can."
