Netflix Dropped New Details On ‘Bridgerton’ Season Four, But It’s Not All Good News

By now, you’ve binged your way through Bridgerton seasons one to three, probably more than once. However, fear not, for season 4 is on the way—and the powers at Netflix are drip feeding us exciting tidbits about the show’s return, including fun facts about its cast.

We now know that season four will centre around Benedict Bridgerton, the second eldest Bridgerton sibling and bohemian bachelor of the Ton. However, fans have been eager to see who would be cast as his love interest, Sophie Baek. And we’re pleased to announce—she’s Australian!

Yerin Ha, who hails from Sydney, has been announced as Benedict’s love interest. To say we’re bursting with national pride is an understatement.

Much to our delight, Netflix has now released our first look at the couple as they confirm production for season four has begun! Sharing the new set pics to Instagram, the caption reads: “please rise for sophie baek & benedict bridgerton!!!”

Read on for all we know about Yerin, plus every other morsel of Bridgerton season four goss.

What Is Bridgerton Season 4 About?

Netflix has now confirmed that season four of the show will focus on Benedict. The streaming giant broke the news via Instagram, which ended in a hint to the original novels, where Benedict falls in love with a mystery woman at a masquerade ball. You can watch the video in full below:

If season four follows the books, the plot will see Benedict fall in love with Sophie Beckett, the illegitimate daughter of an earl who has been made to be a servant by her stepmother.

The whole thing is very Cinderella-esque, with the pair meeting at a masquerade after which Benedict is determined to discover his mysterious new love’s true identity.

Who Is Bridgerton‘s Sophie Baek?

The character of Sophie Baek, Benedict’s love interest, will officially be taken-up by Australian-Korean actress, Yerin Ha.

A relative newcomer, Yerin received her big break in the Paramount+ series Halo. She previously appeared in Australian limited series Bad Behaviour, for which she received a Logie nomination.

Yerin, who attended NIDA, is the granddaughter of prominent Korean actress Son Sook. We cannot wait to watch this star rise!

Who Are The New Bridgerton Season 4 Cast Members?

With the announcement of production beginning on season four, Netflix has also confirmed a few new names joining the cast.

Katie Leung joins the cast as Lady Araminta Gun, a “fabulous discerning and blunt” mother of two girls who is “feeling the pressure to get at least one of them married off.”

Playing Rosamund Li, the “beautiful, vain and ager to please her mother” newcomer who “sets her sights on Benedict Bridgerton this season and is determined to get what she wants”, is Michelle Mao.

Joining Rosamund is younger sister, Posy Li, played by Isabella Wei, who is described as having a “chatty, overly friendly demeanor” that “often has her putting her foot in her mouth.”

Which Bridgerton Cast Members Will Return For Season 4?

Praise be, Lord Anthony Bridgerton will return the to the Ton. Actor Jonathan Bailey confirmed he will be in the fourth season of Bridgerton, telling Good Morning America that he has “a couple of weeks etched out in my schedule for returning.” Bailey also hinted at the role his character will serve, suggesting he would provide precious counsel for his brother, Benedict, as he navigates love.

“The thing about Bridgerton, which is so brilliant, is that there’s so many different ways you can fall in love as humans and that’s what this show will explore. Obviously being the older brother, I’m going to be there to support the youngsters as we go,” he said.

As for Simone Ashley (Kate Bridgerton, nee Sharma), showrunner Jess Brownell previously said the door was open to both her and Jonathan. However, despite Jonathan Bailey reprising his role, Netlix and Simone are yet to confirm Kate’s return.

Speaking to PEOPLE, Simone shared her “hope” for a season four appearance: “I think we’ll do all we can with our schedules to make it work so that we can, hopefully.”

As for the rest, we know that season four will be Benedict’s time to shine, meaning Luke Thompson will certainly be back on the ticket. For those who have read the books and know Francesca Bridgerton’s upcoming storyline might also assume Hannah Dodd will return to see her character through the twists and turns of her next chapter.

Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury), Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte) and Ruth Gemmell (Violet Bridgerton) will return as confirmed by Netflix. So too are the younger Bridgerton children—Florence Hunt (Hyacinth Bridgerton) and Will Tilston (Gregory Bridgerton)—who are yet to have their dedicated season. This means we can also gladly expect more of the delightful Claudia Jessie (Eloise Bridgerton).

But what of Cressida Cowper (Jessica Madsen)? News of her return remains to be seen. At the end of season three, Cressida was sent off to the Welsh countryside by her parents after failing to find a match on the marriage mart. While the door remains open to a return down the line, it’s unlikely we’ll see her character next season.

Will Nicola Coughlan Return To Bridgerton?

Given how season three ended, some wonder how the franchise will pick up Penelope Bridgerton / Lady Whistledown’s arc now the secret is out. However, actress Nicola Coughlan told The Wrap that she and Luke Newton, aka Colin Bridgerton, would both reprise their roles in the next season.

Will Julie Andrews Still Be Lady Whistledown In Bridgerton Season 4?

So, what of Julie Andrews, who has held the role of our elegant narrator, aka Lady Whistledown, thus far? In the season three finale, Penelope finally reveals to the ‘Ton that she has been leading a double life. After her revelation we head Andrews’ voice sign off, saying, “And with the retirement of my literary persona, I would like to formally introduce myself: previous wallflower, current columnist, observer, wielder of quill, nobody unique, and yet I have my moments.”

The next sentence begins, “And hopefully dear reader…,” and Nicola Coughlan as Penelope takes over the narration. She concludes: “You will stay on to enjoy them with me as we begin this next part of our journey. Yours truly, Penelope Bridgerton.”

Thankfully, showrunner Jess Brownell told Glamour that they are hoping to keep Andrews involved and are simply “playing around” with how that will look.

Bridgerton Season 4 Release Date

A release date for Bridgerton season four is yet to be announced, but given Netflix’s announcement of production having just commenced, we don’t recommend fans hold their breath.

If we were to speculate based on the timeline of season three, which began filming in July 2022 before airing in March 2023, Bridgerton season four is likely to air in August 2026. Cue the tears.

How Many Seasons Of Bridgerton Will There Be?

Netflix has renewed Bridgerton for at least four seasons. However, there are eight books in Quinn’s series, so Netflix has plenty to play with, if they so wish. After season three, the remaining Bridgertons who stories are yet to be adapted are Benedict, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, and Hyacinth.
