Luke Shaw To Be Carefully Managed In Return From Injury

Erik ten Hag has made it clear that he will prioritize Luke Shaw's recovery process and not rush the Manchester United full-back back into action following his recent injury setback. Shaw sustained a calf injury during training, ruling him out until after the season's first international break. Despite not featuring for ten Hag's team since February, Shaw started for England in the Euro 2024 final against Spain, a decision that faced criticism from some United fans.

Ten Hag addressed Shaw's situation during a news conference, stating, 'He will return in the short term, it doesn't take long. We are looking forward to Luke Shaw's return as he is a crucial player for our team. While we aim to have him back as soon as possible, we must allow the recovery process to take its course without rushing.'

Shaw will be absent for United's opening Premier League game against Fulham, but the team has received a boost with the recent signings of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich. Both players are expected to be part of the squad for the upcoming match at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag emphasized the importance of focusing on available players rather than those sidelined due to injuries. He mentioned, 'Issues may arise, but our focus remains on fielding a strong team with the players at our disposal. De Ligt and Mazraoui will be included in the squad, alongside Harry Maguire.'

While acknowledging that the team is not at full strength, ten Hag highlighted the need to progress gradually and improve performance levels game by game. He expressed optimism about the team's development, stating, 'We are not at 100%, but we are committed to enhancing our performance levels both collectively and individually. Our aim is to continue improving and striving for higher standards as we progress through the season.'
