Luke Shaw shares stern Manchester United warning after reaching Carabao Cup final

Left-back Luke Shaw has warned that Manchester United have not yet achieved anything after booking a Carabao Cup final date with Newcastle United at Wembley at the end of this month.

United sealed their place in their first domestic cup final in almost five years with a routine 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the second-leg of their semi-final showdown at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, meaning they won the tie 5-0 on aggregate. Anthony Martial and Fred scored in the space of just three second half minutes to get the job done.

It means manager Erik ten Hag now has the opportunity to deliver the club's first trophy in almost six years less than a year after he accepted the job. Although United should be pleased with their achievement of reaching a major cup final, Shaw, who made his first start of the Reds' Carabao Cup adventure against Forest, sees little point in having reached the final if they do not see the job through and end their trophy drought.

"Of course, it is extremely pleasing but I don't think there is any point in going to a final if you don't win it," Shaw told Sky Sports. "It is a massive opportunity for us, it is where we want to be, playing in big games and big finals, and getting this club back to where it should be.

"Like I said, that is challenging for trophies and we have got a big one against Newcastle. They're an extremely good team and it is going to be a very tough game.

"It is a big moment for us in where we want to go."

Although excitement for the clash with Newcastle will quickly build, United have another six fixtures to tick off before they can think about Wembley, featuring back-to-back Premier League clashes with Leeds United and a Europa League double-header with Barcelona. With that said, Shaw is keen to remain focused.

The left-back added: "It is very special [to share this with the fans]. I think it shows where we are at the moment.

"The boys are in a really good moment, especially at home, where we feel like the crowd are with us and hearing them now we know that. It is a final we can really look forward to, but we have got a few big games coming up first before we go there."
