Luke Shaw returns and Antony starts in line-up Manchester United fans want to see vs Liverpool

Manchester United supporters have backed Luke Shaw to make an instant return to action for this afternoon's meeting with Liverpool.

United travel to Anfield knowing a win will further cement their place in the top four, following defeats for both Newcastle and Tottenham on Saturday, but face a Liverpool side who have won three of their last four league games and four of their last five at Anfield - a ground the Reds haven't won at since 2016.

But an outstanding run of form has seen them win nine and draw two of their last 11 games, most recently coming from a goal down to beat West Ham United 3-1 and book their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals - where they will host Fulham at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag will likely be boosted by the return of both Jadon Sancho and Shaw, who missed Wednesday's FA Cup win over West Ham United through illness and injury respectively, and United fans have tipped the left-back to come straight back into the fore at Anfield. The 27-year-old's experience will be vital against Mohamed Salah and a fervent Anfield crowd, as will the leadership of both Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in the middle.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has often been called upon in situations that call for a sturdy one-v-one defender, and the task of managing Darwin Nunez will likely see the Englishman called upon again to complete the back four in front of the ever-present David de Gea.

United's midfield has all but picked itself for the past few games, and Ten Hag is expected to revert to the trio that won United the Carabao Cup last Sunday, with Casemiro's presence allowing Fred and Bruno Fernandes the freedom to push forward. Midfield has been at the core of Liverpool's problems this season and the battle in the middle could well decide this afternoon's game.

Despite his continued struggles in front of goal, Wout Weghorst continues to impress in all other areas of forward play and the Dutchman has been backed to start again at Anfield, leaving Marcus Rashford as the obvious choice on the left. The forward has scored 25 goals this season which is more than three times anyone else in red - this afternoon's battle with Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to be a key one.

Ten Hag's main decision towards the front will be on the right, with the return of Sancho offering an alternative option to Antony. The Brazilian started against West Ham in midweek and has been backed to do so again this afternoon, with Sancho and Wednesday's man of the match Alejandro Garnacho benched.
