Luke Shaw makes admission over Manchester United's fixture with Liverpool

Luke Shaw believes Manchester United must beat teams like Liverpool if they wish to be challenging for the Premier League title in the future.

A trip to Anfield is often deemed one of the toughest fixtures in United's calendar with the home fans creating an intimidating atmosphere for the players. However, Erik ten Hag's team will head into the clash full of confidence.

United beat Jurgen Klopp's side back in August to start a brilliant run of form which has seen the Reds charge up the table. In just over a week, Ten Hag's side have knocked Barcelona and West Ham out of the Europa League and FA Cup respectively while also securing their first silverware in six years after beating Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final.

However, for Shaw, United's true aim is to be challenging for the league title again and the England international believes that Sunday's game will be a good test of where they stand in that conversation. He explained to Premier League Productions: "They're always big, big games.

"I think if we want to be challenging for the title, I think we need to be going there and winning these games. But, of course, on the other hand, we know it's going to be an extremely tough game.

"They're always a tough game against Liverpool. They're an amazing side, a really good side and I think it's going to be a good game."

It could be seen as a good time to play Liverpool following their recent indifferent form. Klopp's team lost 5-2 to Real Madrid in the Champions League last week and while they have begun to pick up results again, they remain ten points behind United.
