Luke Shaw injury: Ruben Amorim offers support to Man United star

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has promised to give Luke Shaw as much time as he needs to recover from his latest injury setback.

Luke Shaw Injury: United Star ‘Broken’ After His Latest Setback

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has recently returned to the squad after almost a year out with injury and was set to make his first start under Ruben Amorim.

Shaw came on as a substitute in each of Amorim’s first three games but now looks set for another lengthy period out.

The England international admitted he was going through his ‘toughest period’ this week.

However, Amorim has been quick to tell Shaw to take as much time as he needs to recover.

“What I can say since I arrived, I see him in the medical department working a lot in the gym,” said Amorim. “Working a lot on the pitch, we control the load during the games, during the trainings, he was losing weight, so he was doing everything.

“If he continues to do that behaviour, he’s a top, top player and we need him. No matter how long he will need, I will be with him, we will help him to return. Not just Manchester United but your national team needs a guy like Luke Shaw, so we are here to help him.”

Amorim has not put a timeframe on when he expects Shaw to return. The news will come as a bitter blow in the aftermath of what was his first defeat as United boss, after his side lost 2-0 to Arsenal on Wednesday.

Luke Shaw’s Torrid Injury Record

After suffering a broken leg against PSV in the 2015 Champions League group stage, Luke Shaw has endured a horrendous time with injury.

His best run of form came between 2021-2023, scoring for England in the Euro 2021 final. He then put in some superb performances in Erik ten Hag’s debut season (2022/23).

However, in the 2024/25 campaign already the Englishman has missed 17 games and his appearance against Ipswich was his first in almost 300 days.

But now the defender is set to miss a whole lot more of football in what is a crushing blow.

Shaw took to social media on Tuesday to confirm his latest injury. He said: “Hi guys, it’s hurting a lot having to write this as I really thought I had got through my recent struggles and was on a positive path going forward, but unfortunately I’ve had a small setback.

“I’ve been through a lot and had a lot of ups and downs but this has definitely been my toughest period. I’m absolutely devastated and it’s extremely tough to come to terms with reality at this moment in time.

“I understand there is gunna be people frustrated, angry, disappointed and I understand all that. There is no one feeling that more than me at this moment in time. But what I can promise is I will do everything I can to come back better soon to help this club achieve its ambitions this season.

“Thank you to everyone for the support. It really doesn’t go unnoticed and I really do appreciate it.”
