Luke Shaw in protective boot after Manchester United defender suffers injury setback

Luke Shaw has been pictured wearing a protective boot after the Manchester United defender suffered a fresh injury setback.

The left-back missed last weekend’s defeat at Everton after being forced off at half-time during the 1-1 draw with Leicester. Shaw has missed the last couple of weeks' training after having metal bolts removed from his leg.

The bolts were inserted when Shaw underwent surgery 2015 after suffering a double leg-break against PSV Eindhoven. The 26-year-old was troubled by the injury during the clash with Leicester, though, initially receiving treatment on the pitch at Old Trafford before eventually making way at half-time.

Shaw’s personal chef posted a picture of himself with the United left-back after preparing his latest meal on Thursday night. The picture showed Shaw wearing a protective boot on his right leg as he continues his recovery from surgery.

United interim boss Ralf Rangnick admitted last week Shaw’s latest setback came as a surprise to him and the club. The German may now find himself having to plan for the final seven games of the campaign without the England defender.

"He told me in the international break when he was with the England squad that he had some problems there and he played against Leicester and five minutes before half-time he had an issue and had to be treated on the pitch.

"And at half time, the doctor came to see me and said he could not continue and since then we have been discussing what is best and they decided to have the two bolts removed."
