Luke Shaw has already welcomed competition at Manchester United amid Tyrell Malacia's arrival

Luke Shaw has already welcomed competition for places at Manchester United as Tyrell Malacia joined the Reds this summer. Malacia became United's first signing of the summer this week as he completed a move from Feyenoord.

The left-back had a brilliant season in the Eredivisie putting in stellar performances including against Ten Hag's old club Ajax. Currently United have three first-team left backs at the club in Shaw, Malacia and Alex Telles. After the latter moved to Old Trafford in 2020, England international Shaw explained how extra competition is just what the Reds need.

He told United's club website : "Competition for any team is a must. There is competition for every single spot and you’ve got to be ready for it, work hard and give the manager a decision harder than what he’s had to make before.

"Like I said, competition is very healthy for the squad, it’ll push everyone even more because everyone wants to play." With Malacia having already impressed Ten Hag over in the Netherlands, both Shaw and Telles will be hoping to make an impression during United's pre-season tour.

All three men have been picked in Ten Hag's 31-man tour squad which set off for Thailand on Friday. One notable absentee is Cristiano Ronaldo who has been given additional time off to deal with a 'family issue'.
