Luke Shaw addresses Manchester United hopes of winning quadruple

Luke Shaw says Manchester United are gunning for all four trophies this season under Erik ten Hag, with the Reds being the only Premier League side left in four competitions.

Newcastle’s late win over Fulham on Sunday means United stay fourth in the table despite their epic 2-1 win over Manchester City on Saturday, but the gap to their arch-rivals is now reduced to a single point.

Talk of a title chase is now being discussed by some pundits and fans as the side stretched their winning run to nine games. They are nine points behind leaders Arsenal, who defeated Tottenham - five points down on United - 2-0 in this weekend’s North London derby.

Ten Hag’s side have a game in hand over Newcastle and another win, coupled with draws or defeats for the Magpies and City, will see them jump into second. Meanwhile, United are also in the League Cup semi-finals, the FA Cup fourth round and the knockouts of the Europa League.

Speaking after the win over City, Raphael Varane admitted “everything is possible” when asked about a Premier League title chase while Shaw - who played excellently in his fourth game at centre-half on Saturday - went one further.

"Right now as a team we have to make sure we have the right consistency in performances and results,” he said. "It's always about winning. If you play well or not, you need to be winning, and recently we've been doing that.

“We're still in four competitions. We're Manchester United, we have to aim high. Of course we want to win all four of them, but whether that happens or not is down to us, it's down to the way we act, the way we rest and get ready for the next game.

"Now we have to forget about this game, forget about this win, because we have a massive game on Wednesday now against Crystal Palace." The Eagles go into the clash having lost their last three games, winning just one of their last seven games across all competitions, albeit are still 12th in the Premier League table.
