Two rookies for the Green Bay Packers accomplished career milestones during Sunday’s 20-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams.
Tight end Luke Musgrave caught his first career touchdown pass, while safety Anthony Johnson Jr. intercepted his first career pass.
Musgrave’s score slammed the door shut on the Rams. The well-designed play — which had Jordan Love fake left and then fake right before throwing to Musgrave leaking down field over the middle — gave the rookie an easy catch and a 20-yard touchdown that put the Packers up 20-3 in the fourth quarter.
Johnson Jr. got a big assist from Jaire Alexander on his first pick. Backup quarterback Brett Rypien was attempting to hit Cooper Kupp on an out-breaking route against zone coverage, but Alexander skied to deflect the pass into the waiting arms of Johnson Jr., who was ranging over from his safety spot.

Musgrave and Johnson Jr. weren’t the only rookies making plays. Cornerback Carrington Valentine broke up three passes and nearly had a late interception. Receiver Jayden Reed had a 21-yard run on a trick play. Running back Emanuel Wilson busted a 31-yard run late. Edge rusher Lukas Van Ness had a tackle for loss. Defensive lineman Colby Wooden had a tackle for loss on fourth down. Defensive lineman Karl Brooks broke up two passes.
