Luke Mitchell and Jodi Jones documentary back on TV after bosses make important edit

The 'Murder in a small town' documentary has been re-uploaded to Channel 5 after concerns over legal concerns.

The two-part programme carried out an investigation into the murder of 14-year-old Jodie Jones from Dalkeith, and the conviction of her boyfriend Luke Mitchell.

In 2003, Jodie's body was found on a path in Dalkeith after it had been brutally assaulted. After an investigation by Police Scotland, Mitchell was found guilty of the attack and jailed for 20 years.

Since it aired last week, there has been increased focus on whether or not Luke was guilty of the crimes he was convicted for, with a petition even launched to free him.

However, the documentary was removed from Channel 5's catch up platform yesterday after a complaint over the identity of a man being visible in one scene, reports the Record.

A witness had also made a formal complaint to Ofcom about the programme in relation to comments that were made about him.

The individual stated that the remarks could leave viewers believing he should have been a suspect in the murder, when he was only a witness.

After some adjustments, the documentary has now been reinstated on the Channel 5 website, with the section that had caused concern now edited out.

In response to the show, Police Scotland said they did not need to trace anyone else in connection with the murder.
