Luke McCowan transfer likeliness addressed by Dundee manager Tony Docherty

Tony Docherty is unsure if Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Hibernian marked Luke McCowan’s final appearance for Dundee.

The 26-year-old midfielder led the Dark Blues at Easter Road, despite ongoing interest from the Edinburgh club, who have been pursuing his signature for the past month.

Docherty commended McCowan's performance, particularly under the scrutiny of potential transfer talks, noting his ability to maintain composure and drive the team.

“He grabs the game and he’s got the mentality that he doesn’t want to get beat, and I want to surround myself with players like that in the dressing room,” said the Dundee boss.

“That’s why he is captain, he drags other players through it.”

When asked about the likelihood of McCowan remaining with Dundee past the upcoming transfer deadline, Docherty replied, “We’ll see. If you get players performing at that level you are going to attract suitors.

“We’ll see what happens in the next week, he is a brilliant boy.”

The latest result extended Dundee’s unbeaten streak to eight matches across all competitions this season, with summer signing Simon Murray netting a late equaliser after Hibs had come from behind to take the lead through Martin Boyle and Kieron Bowie, following Scott Tiffoney’s early goal.

Looking ahead, Docherty expressed a desire to further strengthen his squad in the coming days.

“Hopefully I can add some more,” he explained. “I don’t want to put numbers on it but hopefully a few because we are a wee bit short in terms of numbers on the bench.

“But I’ve got such a strong squad that I’m only going to add what will complement and supplement a really strong squad.”
