Luke Evans shares sweet details of first meeting Gogglebox co-star Charlotte Church as kids

Luke Evans will open up about his first meeting with friend and Celebrity Gogglebox co-star Charlotte Church in an interview on The Jonathan Ross Show. The 43-year-old Welsh actor and singer, who is from Pontypool, chats to Ross in the episode airing on Saturday, November 5.

“Charlotte Church - voice of an angel," Luke says, talking about the pair's recent duet of Come What May from Moulin Rouge, which appears on his new album, A Song For You. He continues: "I’ve known that girl since she was 10 years old and I was 16."

He tells Ross: "I used to pay for my own singing lessons and I used to go to this little terraced house. I’d walk up this street and hear this sound and this voice and this tiny thing would walk out and it was Charlotte Church.”

At the time, Luke had moved to Cardiff where he studied with singing coach Louise Ryan. Charlotte also trained with the same teacher. Luke and Charlotte have gone on to become good friends and last week Gogglebox fans saw them team up for a Stand Up To Cancer special. The duo, alongside the rest of the TV show's cast, were particularly moved by the story of young Dylan-James. You can read more about that here.

Elsewhere in the interview, Luke describes how he considers himself both an actor and a singer. He says: “Both of them are my career - I love them both. It probably would be the singing. Singing is just me. It’s just me and my voice. It’s a very honest, real and authentic thing.”

As well as his new album, the Beauty And The Beast and The Pembrokeshire Murders star can be seen in upcoming political thriller Echo 3 for Apple TV. Luke says: “It’s a huge sweeping geo-political thriller. I’m a delta force special operative in the US army.”

He also discusses rumours that he is set to take over from Daniel Craig as the next James Bond, telling Ross: “Maybe. I don’t know. Who knows? What is lovely is that 15 years ago I was on the West End stage and no one knew who I was. 15 years later I’m in the small group of actors from the British industry and one of those that they talk about! If that’s all it is, I’ve had a wonderful journey.”

Elsewhere on the show, Ross chats with singer and The Masked Singer judge Rita Ora, father and son footballing duo Harry and Jamie Redknapp and star of new film Matilda: The Musical Sindhu Vee. Ellie Goulding also sings on the show. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
