Luke Donald hilariously summed up the obsession with Tiger Woods in golf circles in the wake of him signing up to play in the JP McManus Invitational in July.
Irish fans were sent into a tizzy upon hearing that the 15-time Major champion will be among the field in Adare Manor in Limerick.
Naturally, Tiger will be the centre of attention especially as there is the added fascination of seeing how he continues to come back from last year's near-fatal car crash.
The American defied the odds to tee it up at Augusta last week and even managed a highly credible round of -1 on the Thursday before fading over the weekend.
But there will be plenty of other big names including a fellow former world number one in Donald.
But he humbly accepted his role as an also-ran in an amusing tweet yesterday.
He joked: "I too will be playing the JP McManus Invitational in July - just in case you were all wondering!"
in a follow-up tweet he added: "It really is great to hear Tiger committing though - JP & Noreen raise massive amounts for charity with their Pro-Am and Tigers presence will only add to that."
Woods will use his trip to Adare Manor - his fourth appearance in the Pro-Am - to begin his preparations for The Open.
And it is a massive boost to the charity event, which has helped raise over €140 million for charitable organisations in the mid-west region over the past 31 years.
Woods held an emotional reunion with his close friend McManus in Augusta before the Masters and he will join Rory McIlroy, Leona Maguire, Collin Morikawa, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau in the field, while celebrity participants include Mark Wahlberg and Niall Horan.
McManus said: “Tiger has been a great friend and avid supporter of the Pro-Am for a very long time and we are absolutely thrilled he has committed to play once again in the tournament.
“His presence at Adare Manor will undoubtedly bring huge excitement to the thousands of spectators and we are very grateful to him for giving up his free time to be with us.
“We’d also like to sincerely thank all our players, the DP World Tour, volunteers, and ticket cap holders for their continued support of the event as we endeavour to raise vital funds for charities in the region.”
