Lukas Gage, the 28-year-old actor, is generating excitement for his upcoming horror movie role in Smile 2, the sequel to the 2022 horror hit Smile. During an interview on SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show, Gage revealed that filming for Smile 2 was so intense that he experienced physical illness on set.
Gage expressed his reluctance to give away spoilers but assured fans that if they enjoyed the first movie, they would love the sequel. Describing the filming experience as genuinely terrifying, he recounted a moment where the gore and intensity of a scene caused him to become sick to his stomach, leading to him vomiting off-camera.
Smile, the predecessor to Smile 2, earned $217 million worldwide upon its release in September 2022. The film follows Sosie Bacon as a therapist haunted by a monstrous entity that manifests in individuals with unsettling grins. Directed by Kyle Finn, Smile garnered attention for its unique promotional tactic of hiring actors to attend live baseball games with eerie smiles.
Joining Gage in Smile 2 are returning cast members such as Kyle Gallner and new additions including Naomi Scott, Dylan Gelula, and Rosemarie Dewitt. While Paramount has not disclosed specific details about the sequel, Gage emphasized in his interview that the film is genuinely frightening, with the crew also feeling the impact of the horror genre expertise of filmmaker Parker Finn.
Aside from his role in Smile 2, Gage can be seen in Jake Gyllenhaal's latest movie, Road House, a remake of the 1989 film starring Patrick Swayze. The film features Gyllenhaal as a former UFC fighter turned bar bouncer in Florida, alongside Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, and MMA fighter Conor McGregor.
Smile 2 is slated for release on October 18, while Road House will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting Thursday.
