Luka Modric reacts to Casemiro performance for Manchester United vs Everton

Luka Modric has heaped praise on Manchester United midfielder Casemiro after the Brazilian was awarded Man of the Match for his performance versus Everton.

Erik ten Hag's side got back to winning ways in the Premier League thanks to a 2-1 victory at Goodison Park. Former Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi had put Frank Lampard's side ahead inside the first five minutes, as his curling strike from the edge of the area sailed past David de Gea into the top corner.

Antony brought United level in the 16th minute with his third goal in as many Premier League games, as the 22-year-old calmly slotted the ball past Jordan Pickford into the bottom corner. Another injury blow to Anthony Martial saw the Frenchman replaced by Cristiano Ronaldo before the half hour mark, but it did not take long for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner to make an impact.

The 37-year-old was played in one-on-one down the left hand side by his former Real Madrid teammate, as Ronaldo took Casemiro's perfectly weighted through-ball in stride, before firing past Pickford on his weaker foot to scores his 700th club goal. It was so nearly three for United just eight minutes before time, but Marcus Rashford's goal was cruelly ruled out by VAR for a dubious handball decision.

Ronaldo may have made the headlines with his record-breaking goal, but Casemiro was awarded Man of the Match for his dominant display in the midfield for Ten Hag's side. Despite losing the ball in the build-up to Iwobi's goal, the 30-year-old recovered well and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself.

Modric is all too aware of his former teammate's abilities. And after Casemiro posted a picture of him celebrating with Ronaldo on Instagram — alongside the caption: "Well done lads!" — Modric took his chance to praise the former Madrid man, as he took to the comments section to post a fire emoji alongside a pair of clapping hands in recognition of Casemiro's vital role during United's win.
