Luka Doncic fined $35,000 for inappropriate gesture toward official in Mavericks-Warriors

DALLAS — The NBA on Friday fined Mavericks star Luka Doncic $35,000 for “directing an inappropriate and unprofessional gesture toward a game official” in the waning moments of Dallas’ Wednesday night loss to Golden State.

Joe Dumars, NBA executive vice president and head of basketball operations, announced the fine. Neither Dumars nor the league elaborated on Doncic’s gesture, which the league said occurred with 1.7 seconds left in the Mavericks’ 127-125 defeat.

Replays of that point in the game show that Doncic made a money-sign gesture by rubbing several fingers on his left hand against his thumb. Many sports fans probably are more familiar with the gesture as former Texas A&M quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel’s signature gesture after making what he considered to be “money plays.”
