Luis Suarez sends 'amazing' message to Darwin Nunez after first Anfield goal

Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez sent his congratulations to Darwin Nunez after the forward scored his first goal at Anfield for the Reds during the 1-0 victory against West Ham.

Nunez, signed from Benfica for an initial £64m during the summer, climbed above Hammers defender Kurt Zouma in the first half to connect with Kostas Tsimikas' whipped delivery and nod home his fourth goal of the season.

However, having scored at Craven Cottage, the Emirates and Ibrox, Wednesday night's strike was his maiden striker at Anfield as a Liverpool player in a game that was, without doubt, his most promising since making the big-money move to Merseyside.

Suarez, who plays with the Liverpool man at international level, was the second-ever Uruguayan to play for the Reds and was delighted to see Nunez revel in the goal-scoring form he enjoyed during his three-and-a-half years at Anfield.

After the match, Nunez took to his Instagram to express his joy at finding the back of the net, posting: "First goal in my new home [love heart emoji] Here I am @Liverpool."

To which the former Ajax, Barcelona and Liverpool forward commented: "The first of many, scorer! Keep it up and enjoy an amazing stadium and atmosphere! #YNWA "

On another night, the former Benfica marksman could have been leaving L4 with the match ball after two fierce efforts, either side of his goal, were prevented. Firstly by goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and then by the Anfield woodwork shortly after.

After the game, his manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed that he had been withdrawn early in the second half because of muscle tightness Nunez had highlighted at half-time.
