Luis Suarez's time at Liverpool was littered with goals, while his time at Barcelona saw the forward turn those goals into trophies. To most, that is all they remember of his spell at the Camp Nou.
What is rarely mentioned is just how acrimonious his departure from the LaLiga giants was, with threats of legal action and fall outs slightly tainting his illustrious his six-year period at Barcelona. Once it became clear his work with the Blaugrana was done, Suarez was keen on a new challenge and had reportedly been told by the club hierarchy he would be allowed to leave for free in the summer of 2020.
This was easier said than done, given Suarez still had one year left to run on his Barcelona contract. However, the striker's representatives had agreed a deal with the Catalan giants that would see their client give up a percentage of the money owed to him in the final year of his deal providing he would be allowed to leave for free.
Where he would go was the source of huge speculation at the time. Premier League titans Manchester United emerged as a shock option, though a move to Old Trafford would have surely burned any last Liverpool bridges the Urguayan international had.
It was soon revealed that becoming a Red Devil was never actually an option for Suarez even if he wanted to, as in the small print of his Barcelona contract there was a clause stating he could not directly join United from the Camp Nou.
United weren't the only European powerhouse Suarez was barred from joining, with the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain all also identified as no-go areas for the four-time LaLiga winner.

Things turned ugly between Suarez and Barcelona when it became clear that he wanted to join Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid, a side not named in his contract as one he was not allowed to sign for.
As a result, Suarez and his team felt that the switch from Barcelona to Atletico would be a seamless one. That was until Barcelona went back on their word and threatened to refuse to green light the termination of the forward's contract.
This stance was largely inspired by the fact that Barcelona had sanctioned David Villa's switch to Atletico in 2013 and it soon backfired. Villa helped inspire the Rojiblancos to a LaLiga title and even dump the Catalan outfit out of the Champions League en route to the final.
Eventually, Barcelona permitted the deal and Suarez enjoyed huge success at the Wanda Metropolitano, winning the 2020/21 LaLiga title as an Atletico player.
It seemed as if Suarez would have at the very least entertained the idea of joining United at one time, with some suggesting that Cristiano Ronaldo could have been a deciding factor.
Suarez was linked with the Red Devils yet again in the summer of 2021, when Ronaldo was still leading the line at Old Trafford. Comments from the Uruguayan back in 2013 resurfaced which sent the rumour mill into overdrive.
Whilst a Liverpool player, Suarez was asked about the idea of sharing a dressing room with Ronaldo, to which he replied: "Of course I would like to play with Ronaldo, he is a great player. You never know, but it is complicated. At the moment he is in Madrid and I am in Liverpool and I do not know what is going to happen."
The pair never did consider each other team-mates and are unlikely to ever do so, with Suarez now at Brazilian outfit Gremio while Ronaldo plies his trade for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
