Luis Suarez hypes Celtic Brendan Rodgers return as Liverpool legend says Hoops will reach 'next level'

Liverpool and Uruguay legend Luis Suarez has backed Brendan Rodgers to shine at Celtic once more - saying he can outwit Ange Postecoglou by taking the club 'to the next level'.

Rodgers left in March 2019 after winning every domestic trophy in his wake at Celtic Park, alongside doing a stellar job in the UEFA Champions League in terms of scalping some of the big clubs. He left for Leicester City, and whilst two fifth-placed finishes and an FA Cup were secured under his guidance, a poor run last season saw the club relegated in shock circumstances - chucking Rodgers back onto the managerial scrapheap.

But despite suffering ignominy last season, the Northern Irishman still has his credentials in the bank to make a return to management. Having impressed at the Hoops and in England, it's clear that he can improve teams given the chance. And perhaps the best player he has ever coached, Luis Suarez, has come out and backed the Celtic return by claiming he will upsurge Ange Postecoglou and take the Hoops 'to the next level'.

Suarez said to the Daily Record: “Celtic already have some very good players – but under Brendan they can go to the next level if they listen to him. For me he is one of the best coaches in Europe and it is no surprise to me that he has got back into the game so quickly.

“He loves the game – he is passionate about not only winning but playing an attractive style of football. I am glad that he will be back coaching in the Champions League – because that for me is where he belongs.”

“If it was not for Brendan I am not sure I would have had the career that I did – he invested so much in me.

“He obviously cares about the team and about playing attractive football – but what people maybe won’t know is how much he works one on one with every single player.

"He will sit down with you as often as he needs to and make a plan for areas you need to improve, talk about strengths, look at a weakness in the opposition that you as a player can exploit.”

Suarez played his best football at Liverpool under Rodgers, scoring 54 Premier League goals in just 66 appearances whilst on the books at Anfield.
