Luis Suarez gives Arsenal green light for striker overhaul to fix Mikel Arteta's £18m headache

Arsenal’s transfer business could intensify due to the situation surrounding Luis Suarez at Atletico Madrid.

According to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, The Uruguayan striker has turned down several offers to leave Madrid in order to focus on a return to the Premier League with Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.

This could have a direct impact on Arsenal because Alexandre Lacazette has previously been heavily linked to Atletico Madrid, and the interest in the striker could resurface.

If Lacazette was to depart from the cub, Edu would have to ensure the signing of two strikers rather than just the one due to the shortage in the attacking positions.

Lacazette, who is valued at £18 million by Transfermarkt, has less than six months left on his contract which has created a lot of uncertainty about whether he will be at the club next season or not.

Just after the summer transfer window, French outlet Le10 Sport reported that Atletico Madrid were ready to pounce on the opportunity to sign the Frenchman.

If the Spanish side does indeed follow ahead with the acquisition of Lacazette, then Mikel Arteta will need two new strikers, as Folarin Balogun could be the only one at the club come next season.

Eddie Nketiah’s contract is also set to expire, and according to The Times, he has held talks about a potential move to Crystal Palace.

Meanwhile, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future at the club is also in doubt after it was announced that the striker was stripped of the captain's armband due to disciplinary reasons.

Earlier this month, football.london reported that Arsenal would like to wrap up a deal for Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic before the transfer window shuts, if possible.

However, Arteta will need to sign an additional striker if Lacazette’s move to Atletico Madrid reaches an advanced stage in the future.

The Gunners have also been looking at Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Alexander Isak as other striking options, The Athletic's David Ornstein reported.

"Dusan Vlahovic is their key target for that position, and they have very credible backup options. The likes of Alexander Isak at Real Sociedad and Dominic Calvert-Lewin has admirers at Arsenal," Ornstein said.

Bringing in two of the above targets would prove very costly for Arsenal, so it's more likely for just one of these to be the primary option.

This would then enable Edu to seek a cheaper option elsewhere if Lacazette departs the club.
