Light has emerged at the end of the injury tunnel for Luis Sinisterra as Leeds United plot their star forward’s return to action. The 23-year-old has been missing for more than 10 weeks with a Lisfranc injury, but could at long last be over the final hurdle.
Sinisterra’s glut of goals for club and county between late August and late September boosted his importance to Elland Road. The Colombia international had the makings of the club’s next talisman in Raphinha’s absence, but fitness has been his biggest problem.
A pre-season injury kept him out of the starting line-up for the first four league games of the season. A full league debut at home to Everton would be followed by five starts out of six (suspension denied him the other), but injury would strike again and Sinisterra has been missed.

Jesse Marsch quickly ruled the winger out until after the World Cup to kill any expectations of a swift comeback. It’s a difficult injury which has been managed week to week, but Marsch has finally given a timeframe.
“Stuart [Dallas] is working really hard every day and making good progress,” he said. “It's too difficult to give a prognosis right now.
“Luis is making very good progress [and] has been on the pitch doing a lot of individual work, which is the next big phase for him. Maybe in 10 days, he'll be with the team.
“This Lisfranc injury is strange and so it's not always easy to know exactly how it's going to respond, but right now a lot of real positive signs, which would be big for us.”
The American made those comments on New Year’s Eve after the Newcastle United draw, which makes January 10 Sinisterra’s possible return date in training. The clashes with Aston Villa and Brentford could then become targets for the Colombian to be back in the squad.
Dallas, Patrick Bamford and Archie Gray, as of Saturday, are expected to be United’s only other absentees for West Ham United’s visit tomorrow night.
