Luis Enrique rules on footballers and sex as Chelsea stars set to receive orgy ban

Luis Enrique has no problem with his players having sex with their partners - just so long as it's not an orgy the night before a game.

The Spanish boss, 52, is in talks with Chelsea over taking their vacant managerial position at the end of this season and flew to London this week to present his footballing vision to the Blues hierarchy. Meanwhile, Chelsea have confirmed the return appointment of former player and manager Frank Lampard on an interim basis, with a view to Enrique taking the reins in June and replacing Graham Potter, who was sacked on Sunday to end his miserable seventh-month tenure.

And while Chelsea will be interested to know how the ex- Barcelona and Spain boss likes to play football, the Blues squad might also be curious to know his rules when it comes to getting intimate with their partners. Ahead the World Cup, Enrique hilariously revealed his stance on players having sex - and where he draws the line.

Speaking on his Twitch channel ahead of the tournament in Qatar, the 52-year-old said: "[Sex] something I consider totally normal. I mean, if you're at an orgy the night before a match, it's not ideal. But hey."

Enrique also lifted lid on his habits of getting frisky during his playing days, adding: "I consider sex important and as a player whenever I could, with my wife, I did what we had to do."

His Twitch channel became a popular platform during the World Cup, which marked his final days in charge of Spain as he quit after losing to Morocco on penalties in last 16. Now keen on a return to club management for the first time since leaving Barcelona in 2017, Chelsea fans will be eager to know how his talks with co-controlling owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali went.

Have your say! Would Enrique be a smart appointment by Chelsea? Give us your verdict in the comments section.

Upon returning to Spain on Wednesday, Enrique was greeted by reporters but only provided a cheeky response. "I came from Formentera!" the ex-Barca and Real Madrid midfielder joked. "It is wonderful, a paradise island. If you do the haka, I will answer you."

We may not see Enrique much over the coming days as the spotlight turns on Lampard, who's accepted an offer to return as manager until the end of this season. The Blues legend spent 18 months at the helm between June 2019 and January 2021, ultimately being sacked in favour of Thomas Tuchel.

Lampard, 44, is out of work after getting the chop at Everton in January less than a year on from his appointment at Goodison Park. Chelsea promised to conduct a thorough search to decide their next boss, with Enrique's competitors including Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino.
