Luis Diaz speaks out on Sadio Mane exit and tough start to Liverpool season

Liverpool star Luis Diaz says his teammates were 'gutted' when Sadio Mane decided to leave in favour of a move to Bayern Munich.

The winger departed Anfield this summer after six years at Anfield in a deal in a £35m move. Mane has so far scored seven goals in all competitions for his new club, including one in their Champions League group stage victory over Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday night.

Diaz joined Liverpool from Porto in January and has become an integral member of the team under Jurgen Klopp. The winger, though, says a player of Mane's calibre would be a big miss for any club.

“The team was gutted," he told TNT Sports Brasil. "Obviously he’s a player that will be missed in any club.

"He’s gone to a big club and is working to achieve his goals. And we’re conscious of the big group we have here, we’re working hard every day to improve. Everybody’s here to help and that shows in games.”

Diaz has been a shining light in what has been a difficult start to the season for Liverpool. The Colombia international has scored four goals in all competitions this term, including a crucial equaliser at home to Crystal Palace earlier in the campaign.

He's opened up on the Reds' tough start and what's been missing for the team in the first part of the season.

Diaz continued: “It’s simple. Win, win and win. I think winning gives you much more confidence, but not only that, to play well and leave the pitch with the impression you gave your all. For me that’s the most important thing.

"But when that doesn’t happen, we have to try and improve in training to try and rectify in the next game. We’ve very happy with the win tonight, now we’ll rest to prepare for what’s coming.”
