Liverpool have confirmed Luis Diaz’s squad number after announcing his arrival from Porto.
The 25-year-old winger has joined the Reds on a five-and-a-half-year contract and will arrive on Merseyside later this week after Colombia’s key World Cup qualifier against Argentina in Cordoba on Tuesday night.
Diaz passed a medical in South America and has been handed Liverpool’s previously vacant no23 shirt after rejecting the chance to join rivals Tottenham.
That number has previously been worn by the likes of Anfield legends Robbie Fowler and Jamie Carragher, as well as ex-midfielder Emre Can.
It has been vacant since the departure of Swiss playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri for Ligue 1 side Lyon last summer.

It remains to be seen if Diaz will be available to make his Liverpool debut in the FA Cup fourth-round tie against Championship side Cardiff next Sunday afternoon.
After that, Jurgen Klopp’s side face Premier League matches against Leicester and Burnley before the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Serie A leaders Inter Milan at the San Siro.
Liverpool also meet Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on February 27, an early chance for Diaz to claim some quick silverware with his new club.
