Luis Diaz sends emotional message to Liverpool fans regarding last-minute transfer

Luis Diaz has penned an emotional tribute to Liverpool fans claiming that "dreams come true" after his January switch.

The Colombian was a midseason mover, signing for the Reds for £40million from Porto as the Merseyside outfit beat Tottenham to his signature. Diaz has made an instant impact, embedding himself into the club's attacking system and providing Jurgen Klopp with another option.

His quality saw him start Saturday's Champions League final in Paris ahead of Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino. He also played his part in the finals of the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup - both of which were won by Liverpool on penalties - and those successes were celebrated with the club's fans during a parade on Sunday.

Diaz previously enjoyed plenty of success in Portugal and has continued that trend in England. Liverpool were unable to claim the quadruple as the final week of their season saw them miss out in the Premier League and Europe by the finest of margins.

Nevertheless, the Colombian has hailed the day he began his career with the Reds in early February and thanked fans for welcoming him in a message on social media.

He wrote: "February 4th was the day you all welcomed me as just one more in the family. Since that day I’ve been dreaming awake, living what I have deeply wished for all my life. And now that you’ve showed me that dreams come true let me assure you we will keep dreaming together. So with all there’s left to win, let it be, because in here I know: I will never walk alone."

Diaz has scored six times in 26 outings for the Reds and is yet another example of fine recruitment from those behind the scenes at Anfield. He has already earned huge praise, not least from Gary Neville, who gave the Colombian a glowing review after just a matter of months in English football.

The Manchester United legend said on his podcast: “Honestly, it’s utterly depressing. From the moment I saw him (Diaz) play in the Carabao Cup final, which was the first time I’d seen the lad live, until you see a player live and particularly when I look at him, he’s playing off the left-hand side and I look at it from a right-back’s perspective.

“So, I have a pretty good eye about what I wouldn’t have liked and what I would like – I thought ‘oh my God, what a player he is!’ His tenacity, his skill, his pace, his fight, his spirit, everything! He’s cost not a lot again. They (Liverpool) have found another one!”
