Luis Diaz names Liverpool game he hopes to return for after injury update

Luis Diaz has publicised his hope of making a return from injury in time for Liverpool's trip to Real Madrid next month.

Diaz has not featured since sustaining a knee injury during the Reds' 3-2 defeat to Arsenal on October 9. The Colombian was named in Liverpool's mid-season training camp in Dubai during the World Cup hiatus but suffered a setback after returning to training and flew back to England to undergo surgery on the knee issue.

Speaking earlier this month, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed Diaz had stepped up his rehabilitation and was now running on grass. However, he admitted it will "take a few weeks" before he is ready for a return to first-team training.

But now the former Porto winger has broken his silence in an interview with Sky Sports and admitted he has his eyes set on the second leg of Liverpool's mouth-watering Champions League clash with Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on March 15.

"Let's wait [for] a little to see when I can come back to the pitch, and if it's the Bernabeu it will be no problem," said the 26-year-old when asked for an update on his recuperation. Before later adding that he hopes to be "back soon".

The Reds have already hinted at their anticipation for Diaz - who made his Premier League debut for the club one year ago today - to be fit in time for the second leg of the round-of-16 clash after they named him in their Champions League squad for the knockout stages. Meanwhile, both Arthur Melo and Calvin Ramsay were omitted from the squad.

Liverpool welcome the reigning European and Spanish champions to Anfield for the first leg on February 21.
