Luis Diaz makes 'worthless' admission after Liverpool defeat away to Napoli

Liverpool star Luis Diaz says the team 'must improve' and expects things to change after their defeat to Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Reds' disappointing start to the campaign continued earlier this week as they were beaten 4-1 by the Serie A outfit in their opening fixture of the group stage. Liverpool were 3-0 down at half-time and conceded a fourth shortly after the break.

Diaz offered a glimmer of hope just before the 50 minute mark as he pulled a goal back, but Jurgen Klopp 's side were unable to mount a comeback as they fell to a defeat. The Colombian described his goal as 'worthless' on the night but insists he had the desire to help the team turn things around.

"The goal I scored was worthless. It would have been important if it helped the team more," he told Gol Caracol (via ESPN).

"We have to improve and look at what is being done for what is coming, which is much more important. We are in this together and I know that this will change. After I scored the goal, I felt much better emotionally and it was easier.

"I had that confidence, that desire to get the team going and try to turn the result around. But it was complicated because they were already many goals ahead."

Liverpool are now third in group A after Ajax won their opening clash with Rangers, the Reds sit above the Scottish outfit on goal difference. Diaz has now scored four goals in eight appearances in all competitions so far this season, including the equaliser in a dramatic clash against Crystal Palace at Anfield last month.
