Luis Diaz makes "problematic" assessment of Liverpool's early season struggles

Luis Diaz insists Liverpool's opening three games are "not problematic" for the squad or the manager, despite their poor start to the season.

The Reds have picked up just two points from a possible nine following surprise draws with Fulham on the opening day and then Crystal Palace. They lost at Manchester United on Monday night, despite being heavy favourites to win, as their defence was constantly picked apart.

Already Jurgen Klopp's side are seven points off Arsenal, who are setting the pace, and five behind champions Manchester City. Liverpool have been among those to set the standard in the Premier League previously and, whilst Diaz admits it is not ideal, there is no need for any great panic.

He told Sky Sports : "It's been a bit of a difficult start. It's not quite the outset we wanted for the season. We're a club that goes out to win three points from every game we play. I wouldn't say it's problematic for the players or for the manager but certainly we all know we need to do better."

Diaz was needed to rescue a point in the stalemate with Palace at Anfield. Liverpool were down to 10 men and trailing 1-0 before a moment of magic from the Colombian ensured they were not beaten on Merseyside.

The January arrival has hit the ground running after his move from Porto and has established himself in the starting XI. He is forming part of an attack that also features the prolific Mohamed Salah, who chose to extend his Liverpool stay in the summer.

Diaz already believes there is a "special connection" between him and the Egyptian, who is helping him to develop. He said: "It's stupendous for me, being able to share my position in the team with Mo. I've seen him over many years on television at so many tournaments and I'd like to say I'm proud of myself, having reached this position where I can share with him these experiences, to wear the same shirt and be a team-mate of his.

"It's really something special. Every day, playing alongside players like him, it helps you to improve, not just in a footballing sense as a player but also as a person. He's a great guy and there's a very special connection between him and me, and between all of us, in fact."

Liverpool will be looking to claim their first win of the season when they host Bournemouth on Saturday, having endured their worst start to a Premier League season.
