It might be tempting to use this Luis Dias news as an opportunity to poke fun at Spurs bottling another transfer deal.
But that is low-hanging fruit, and the harsh reality is Dias' reported choice to leave the Estadio do Dragao for Anfield is a more threatening move from Liverpool that is likely to make an already prolific attack more potent.
The report broke from several sources on Friday morning that Liverpool are on course to sign the Columbian before the January transfer window shuts, with the Merseyside club prepared to pay around £37.5m with an extra £12.5m in performance-related add-ons.
Even a brief glance at Dias' numbers this season paints the picture of an impressive attacker.
Via Squawka, In the Primeira Liga this season, he has scored the most goals (14), taken the most shots (63), most shots from open play or fast breaks (57) and most touches in the opposition's box (162).
What should be ringing alarm bells for those of Chelsea persuasion is that Liverpool's recent track record on signings is pretty impressive.
Particularly when you look at the way Diogo Jota has settled since moving from Wolves in 2020, now a figure able to take up the goalscoring burden whilst Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are away at AFCON this month.
This deal also highlights a blindspot in Roman Abramovich's Chelsea model.
Particularly when it comes to recruitment, a topic Chelsea supporters have been discussing recently, and why Liverpool are buying a certain player?
The German's model is straightforward and successful. It consistently produces effective attacking football. With such certainty under Klopp, you expect the infrastructure is there for Dias to be integrated smoothly, even coming in halfway through a season.
There is also the sense this move is Liverpool preparing their attack for life after Salah and Mane, particularly the Egyptian whose contract talks are ongoing, and there is fear he could depart.
It is a sign of a club being proactive in the market, not twiddling their thumbs, pondering where to go next or lingering doubts over very recent signings. That culture has very much come from the amount of certainty under Klopp and, comparatively, the complete lack of it at Chelsea for some time.
If Chelsea had been closing in on a deal for Dias, I would be asking several questions: Why are we signing him? What makes him suitable for Tuchel's attack? How are we going to get the best out of him?
At Liverpool, few of those questions are being posed right now. History tells us that Liverpool's recruitment team, led by the brilliant sporting director Michael Edwards, have proven capable of identifying the right players to upgrade Klopp's 4-3-3 formation.
This not only has to relate to attacking frustrations felt by Chelsea in recent windows, but we could also look at the wait to bring in a new central midfield option, despite it being clear the club has been 'monitoring' certain talents for several years.
Dias is just the latest example of why Chelsea's recruitment model needs a rethink under Tuchel in 2022.
