Luis Diaz leaves Liverpool training camp in Dubai after injury setback

Luis Diaz has left Liverpool's mid-season training camp in Dubai after suffering a setback in his recovery from a knee injury.

Diaz hasn't featured for the Reds since sustaining a knee problem during the first half of the 3-2 Premier League defeat at Arsenal on October 9.

The winger didn't require surgery and subsequently underwent rehabilitation both in his home country of Colombia and at the AXA Training Centre before travelling with Liverpool for their training camp in Dubai earlier this week where he was expected to make his comeback in the forthcoming friendlies against Lyon and AC Milan.

But Diaz is instead now returning to Merseyside for tests to determine the extent of his latest problem ahead of Liverpool's season resuming in the Carabao Cup fourth round tie at Manchester City on December 22.

The news is a major headache for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, who is already without one left wing option with Diogo Jota sidelined until late January at the earliest with a calf problem suffered the week after Diaz's initial injury.

Klopp said to the club's official website: “It’s all good (fitness wise) with the boys who are here.

“What’s not good is we have to see with Lucho (Diaz). He felt something and we need to have further assessment there, but apart from that they all look really, really good.”

Diaz said in a social media post earlier this week he was "very happy to be back" but now faces an anxious wait to discover when he can return to action.

The 25-year-old has been one of Liverpool's most impressive performers during a difficult opening few months to the season.
