Luis Diaz gives telling reaction to injury as Jurgen Klopp admits "it doesn't look good"

Liverpool were dealt a huge blow when Luis Diaz had to be taken off during the first-half of their defeat at Arsenal on Sunday.

The Colombian was arguably the Reds' best player in the opening half an hour at the Emirates Stadium as he caused the Arsenal back-line all kinds of problems. Diaz provided an assist for Darwin Nunez's leveller as he made a smart run down the right flank before crossing for the Uruguayan to prod home from close-range.

It was a classy assist from the winger, who has become one of Liverpool's important players in recent months following his big-money move from Porto in January. He has also grabbed three Premier League goals this season - only Roberto Firmino has more at the Reds - and Diaz is also hugely popular figure in the dressing room.

However, Diaz's afternoon ended on 42 minutes when he was taken off after going down holding his knee following a challenge from Thomas Partey. Although his replacement, Firmino, scored early into the second-half, Liverpool were nowhere near as potent and lacked any kind of pace in behind to threaten the Gunners, who dominated the final 45 minutes.

The Reds finished the game with Harvey Elliott as the left-winger, Jordan Henderson on the right-hand side, and Nunez up front. Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota were both hooked after producing below-par performances, while Fabinho and Thiago ended as the midfield pairing with Firmino as the No.10.

Klopp has some thinking to do about how he will set his team up if Diaz is out for the long-term, but "it doesn't look good", according to Klopp. Trent Alexander-Arnold also had to come off with an injury after he rolled his ankle following a challenge from Gabriel Martinelli.

Where will Liverpool finish this season? Let us know in the comments below!

In his post-match press conference, Klopp said: "He (Alexander-Arnold) is injured unfortunately. Like Luis Diaz as well, it doesn't look good for both. That is the icing on the cake..."

Diaz left the Emirates on crutches and heavily strapped in a knee brace. The Liverpool Echo also revealed that a "downbeat Diaz didn't stop to speak to reporters but offered a grimace and a disappointed shake of the head" when asked by a journalist about how bad the injury is.

The wideman may not have detailed exactly what the problems were but his response spoke volumes with Liverpool facing a daunting fixture list before the World Cup starts in November. The Reds face a further six Premier League games over the next month, starting with their home clash with Manchester City next weekend.

Alongside that, they also have the rest of their Champions League group games to navigate, as well as also starting the defence of the League Cup against Derby County next month. Liverpool are next in action when they head to Rangers on Wednesday night.
