Luis Diaz delivers message after promising first Liverpool start at Anfield

Luis Diaz has issued his first response to his Liverpool debut at Anfield on Thursday night.

The new signing made his first start in the Premier League win over Leicester City on Merseyside.

Diaz made a £50m move from Porto last month and was thrown in for the FA Cup win over Cardiff City last weekend.

He then started for the first time four days later and received a huge Anfield reception.

Diaz posted on social media and simply said: "Amazing feelings" alongside images of his efforts against the Foxes.

The Colombian played with huge energy as he filled in for the absent Sadio Mane, who has just returned following his AFCON success.

He didn't register an assist or score, but showed more than enough to suggest he will be a huge asset for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool going forward.

Diaz teamed up with Andy Robertson down the left flank with the Scot a stalwart on that side of the pitch.

The Reds left-back was confident that his new teammate would be able to handle himself having been immediately impressed with his training efforts.

"His first training session I saw him flying about and I thought 'he'll be okay here'," Robertson said on BT Sport.

"Look, we need to let him bed in, he's obviously still got the language to pick up and the way we play and everything.

"I thought for his first start he was excellent today. Him flying in to tackles today - that's one way to get the crowd to love you straightaway and I think they really took to him."

Liverpool were able to close the gap to Manchester City, who retain a comfortable lead at the top of the Premier League.

The absentees on Merseyside gave Klopp the perfect opportunity to start his new signing.

Mo Salah was only good enough for a spot on the bench and the German boss admitted he was surprised by Diaz's swift impact.

He said: "It is a surprise for me as well, but that is exactly what he looked like in our training sessions. We thought we we'd try it.

"Without five million formations, we just let him play. It was an outstanding game for his 1st start, really impressive."

Liverpool will again be in action this weekend when they take on Burnley at Turf Moor.

Klopp will again have all his forward options available to him which will allow him to continue rotating as the Reds remain in all four competitions.
