Technical enthusiasts at Digital Foundry, which specializes in technical analysis of gaming hardware and software, were discussing to decide which game would take the award. This comes as the successor to the Nintendo Switch is on the horizon.
The Switch's Most Technically Impressive Games
This is now the perfect opportunity to look back at some of the games on Nintendo's handheld console that have pushed the hybrid device to its near limits. Some of the contenders include Metroid Prime Remastered and Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
The fact that Luigi's Mansion 3 was the winner came as somewhat of a surprise but in terms of visual ambition and accomplishment, this particular title is phenomenal.
It was able to deliver something that was very special and seems to have gone beyond the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch itself, according to MyNintendoNews.
The real-time lighting that Luigi's Mansion 3 features is simply brilliant and it has impressive shadow-casting flashlights, screen-space ambient occlusion, and an excellent approximation of bounce lighting.
What the Nintendo Switch did with this particular title is comparable to what is seen on far more capable platforms. This fact also extends to things like character rendering, which features skin-shading techniques that compare favorably with CGI movies.
Digital Foundry noted that developer Next Level Games delivered impressive work with Luigi's Mansion 3. The former said that the studio created excellent art design that extended to environment design as well, said Eurogamer.
Luigi's Mansion 3 Takes Top Spot
The technical analysts said that Next Level Games showcased variety and attention to detail and noted that the game's physics system was similarly impressive. It argued that the game's static camera gave the developer leeway to carefully budget any given scene.
Despite the restrictions that they faced, Next Level Games was able to deliver visuals and effects that are rarely ever seen on the Nintendo Switch. Furthermore, they look great and still run smoothly at a pretty consistent 30 frames per second, which is not a simple feat.
Luigi's Mansion 3 winning the award comes as we are now approaching the tail-end of the Nintendo Switch era.
