Lucy Owen wears eye patch as she's 'very grateful' to expert who spotted health issue that led to surgery

Lucy Owen has shared a health update with her Twitter followers and thanked NHS staff working at the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. The Welsh presenter, best known for her work on BBC Wales Today and the recently axed BBC X-Ray, has revealed how a trip to the optician led to surgery that saved her sight.

The 52-year-old shared a picture of herself wearing a large eyepatch as she explained to her social media followers what had happened and urged others to stay on top of their eye health. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.

She captioned the image: "Again I need to say a huge thank you to the #NHS. Going home after Mr Williams and the amazing team @CV_UHB stopped me losing sight in my eye with surgery for a detached retina."

Lucy added: "Very grateful to my optician who spotted it and rushed me in. Diolch all. Keep an eye on yours too."

Responding, one fan wrote: "That must have come as a shock! Here’s wishing you a swift recovery Lucy!"

While a second added: "Ohh Lucy, I hope you recover quickly. You have spurred me on to book my (way overdue) routine eye test, it shows just how vital they are."

While a third commented: "Bloody hell Lucy! Glad it was caught in time." And a fourth said: "Oh my gosh Lucy. Massive hug and sending positive vibes for speedy healing!"
