Lucy Meacock returns to Granada Reports after months off screen - and fans are delighted

Popular Granada Reports host Lucy Meacock returned to presenting duties on the ITV show after a three month absence - and viewers were delighted.

Worried viewers had flooded Twitter in recent weeks to ask why Lucy wasn't on screen.

But Lucy was finally back in the hot seat on ITV on Wednesday night, alongside co-host Gamal Fahnbulleh.

Introducing the show, Lucy beamed and said: "Hello, a very very warm welcome from Granada Reports, It's great to be back."

Co-host Gamal said: "Ah it's great to see you back Lucy".

Introducing the weather segment, Lucy joked: "What a day I've picked to come back to work, ice cream weather outside."

Lucy has not explained her absence away from screen over the past few months, but has thanked fans for all their messages over the weeks.

She has been a lead anchor on Granada Reports since 1998 and has won a raft of industry awards for her journalism.

Viewers spoke of their relief on Twitter that Lucy had returned after months away from screen.

One wrote: "Aww Lucy, myself and my Mum have really missed you, my Mum has asked every night "where's Lucy, I hope she's ok" and I've just told her that you are back tonight. She's made up. Welcome back Lucy."

Another said: "You have been missed you are always like a breath of fresh air...you are @GranadaReports and so loved by everyone here in the North West."

A third said: "The sun is shining and Lucy is back with Gamal, the world is a much better place. Welcome back Lucy we’ve missed you."

A further added: "Great to see you back on air Lucy, the rest of the guys have done a great job while you’ve been away, but you’re the “boss”."

Lucy has thanked fans for "all their lovely messages" during her absence.

Granada Reports airs every night on ITV at 6pm
