Lucy Boynton has criticised the way fans approach her boyfriend, the actor and her Bohemian Rhapsody co-star Rami Malek.

Speaking to Porter, the 25-year-old actor explained that when the two of them are out in public together, some fans get overexcited and try to “grab” Malek.

“It’s lovely to see people who are excited about his work – if they’ve seen Mr Robot or Freddie,” Boynton said, referencing the sci-fi TV drama in which Malek stars and his leading role in Bohemian Rhapsody, in which the actor played Freddie Mercury.

“But it’s just that thing of people grabbing him,” Boynton continued.

“I mean, you’d never grab a complete stranger in the street. And I think there’s a sense of ownership. It’s OK to just come up to someone, with your camera already out, and disregard whoever they’re with.”

The actor went on to recall a recent “grabbing” incident that she found particularly troubling. “It happened when we were with my mother, and we were just shoved out of the way,” she said. “It’s quite shocking.”

Boynton also spoke about her admiration for Malek, whom she met while filming Bohemian Rhapsody, and the way he fully involves himself in the acting process.

“I’d never really seen that in a lead actor before, being involved in every corner,” she told the publication.

“I’ve tried to do that, being more aware. I think I’ve become more opinionated and I’ve got a better vocabulary, in terms of understanding a project, and my own tastes.”
