Lucas Paqueta, Gianluca Scamacca - West Ham injury latest ahead of Gent fixture

West Ham United will be looking to extend their ten-match winning run in the Europa Conference League this week when they take on Gent in Belgium.

The Hammers head to Belgium on Thursday night for the first leg of their Europa Conference League quarter-final clash, having won all ten of their matches in this season’s competition so far.

Ahead of the meeting with the Buffalos, here is a look at West Ham’s current list of injury concerns.

Gianluca Scamacca (knee)

Striker Gianluca Scamacca has missed all three of West Ham’s matches in the Premier League since returning from international duty with a knee injury.

The 24-year-old has had a stop start season, both in terms of form and with injury/illness-related absences.

Having been part of Italy’s squad for their 2024 European Championship qualifying matches against England and Malta, with Scamacca coming off the bench in both, he returned to east London with a knee issue that could see him miss at least another week of action.

Speaking last Tuesday ahead of the 5-1 loss to Newcastle United, manager David Moyes said Scamacca needs two weeks of rehabilitation, adding that he hoped surgery would not be required.

“The only news that we’ve got is that Gianluca Scamacca’s got two weeks rehabilitation on his knee at the moment, which is going to keep him out for a couple of weeks,” said Moyes .

“We’ll need to see how it is going forward, we think it doesn’t need surgery at the moment but we just need to see how the next two weeks go.”

Lucas Paqueta (foot)

Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta was absent in the Hammers’ 1-0 win over Fulham on Saturday after suffering a foot injury during the defeat to Newcastle.

Paqueta had trained on Friday prior to the squad travelling across London. However, he was still feeling the effects of the issue, with Moyes opting to leave him out to face Marco Silva’s side as a precaution.

Moyes said on Saturday that he hopes and expects Paqueta’s absence to be a short-term one.

“Lucas Paqueta got a knock in the game [against Newcastle] and he trained yesterday but he didn’t feel like he was right so I couldn’t take the chance with it,” Moyes told football.london.

“I don’t think it’s that bad. You probably remember the tackle he got against Newcastle and he has a swollen foot. He tried to train yesterday and did a bit but didn’t feel like it was right.”

However, on Tuesday evening, the club posted a training video in which Paqueta was filmed in the session, suggesting he could be in line to travel to Belgium.
