Lucas Bergvall responds to Tottenham pre-season injury scare

Lucas Bergvall has provided a promising update after suffering a pre-season injury scare for Tottenham.

The 18-year-old officially joined Spurs earlier this summer after the club struck an £8.5m agreement with former club Djurgarden back in February.

Bergvall has been handed the club’s No.15 shirt for the Premier League season ahead, which perhaps suggests he will be involved in Ange Postecoglou’s first-team.

Postecoglou has seen a number of his young players impress during the summer thus far, with Bergvall and fellow new arrival Archie Gray combining well during the 5-1 over Hearts earlier this month.

There was some concern, however, when Bergvall was forced off in the first-half of his side’s 2-0 win over QPR at Loftus Road, though Postecoglou was quick to downplay any serious apprehension.

Speaking to We Are Tottenham TV, the teenager said of his scare: “Everything is alright. It was just to be sure, it was a little bit with my bone here, but it was nothing. It was just to be sure that it was nothing.”

Bergvall came on in the second-half during Saturday’s 3-2 win over Vissel Kobe in Tokyo, with fellow teenager Mikey Moore scoring a late winner against the Japanese champions.

Postecoglou hailed Moore, whose pre-season form is another promising sign for the season ahead.

“Mikey has been fantastic since we brought him in. He’s earned his spot on the roster at the moment — he did at the end of last year,” he said.

“He got a run with the first team because we could see in training that he was handling himself really well and that’s followed through into pre-season training.”

Spurs play a K League All-Stars XI in Seoul on Wednesday before meeting Bayern Munich at the same venue on Saturday.

They then host the German giants on Saturday August 10 before beginning their League campaign away at newly-promoted Leicester nine days later.
