Lucan resident misses Croke Park matches after two hours of no-show buses

A Lucan resident missed Dublin playing in Croke Park after two hours of no-show buses.

There was disruption to buses in west Dublin on Saturday due to driver shortages, Pride events, and protests. South Dublin County Councillor Madeleine Johansson said she was contacted by multiple residents in the Lucan and Clondalkin area about issues with the C1, C2 and 40 bus routes.

Speaking to Dublin Live, Cllr Johansson said that one local told her he waited over two hours for a bus on Saturday and missed the All-Ireland quarter finals between Derry and Clare, and Dublin and Cork, in Croke Park.

She said: "It has been an issue that has been ongoing for a long time on a locational basis. Even pre-Covid there used to be cases of buses just not showing up but it does seem to have gotten worse in the past few weeks in particular.

"I was contacted over the weekend by someone who was left for two hours on Saturday in Lucan. He had a ticket for Croke Park and ended up not being able to go because no bus came for two hours."

Cllr Johansson said people from all across the city have gotten in touch with her saying it is the same elsewhere.

"It seems to be an issue all across the city at the moment. I can imagine that obviously things are coming back to some sort of normality after Covid and there is simply not enough buses for the demand.

"Particularly in the Lucan area where there's a load of new estates, so I can guess that what's possibly happening is that the buses are filling quite quick."

A spokesman for the National Transport Authority told Dublin Live that a "variety of issues" contributed to service delivery of routes C1, C2 and 40 on Saturday. He said there was disruption due to Pride events and protests in Pearse St and Irishtown resulted in curtailments between 2pm and 5pm.

The spokesman also said that there are some driver shortages and absences.
