Luc Besson Not Involved In Lucy Sequel Development Despite Rumors.

Scarlett Johansson looks happy.

Director Luc Besson recently clarified the rumors surrounding a potential sequel to his 2014 sci-fi action film, Lucy. Besson revealed that he has not been involved in the development of a sequel despite reports suggesting otherwise. In an interview with The Playlist, Besson expressed his surprise upon hearing about Lucy 2 and mentioned that he had not received any script or been informed about the project.

Lucy, written and directed by Besson, starred Scarlett Johansson as Lucy Miller, a young woman who gains superhuman abilities after a drug-related incident. The film received mixed reviews from critics but was a commercial success, grossing over $463 million worldwide against a budget of $40 million.

Since 2015, there have been efforts to create a follow-up to Lucy, with the latest development being a spinoff series rather than a traditional sequel. The series will shift the focus to Morgan Freeman's character, Professor Samuel Norman, an expert neurologist who aids Lucy in understanding her newfound powers.

While specific details about the series remain scarce, it is expected to explore Professor Norman's role in helping individuals unlock their full brain potential beyond the myth of using only 10% of their brains.

Luc Besson's upcoming project, Dogman, offers a departure from the sci-fi genre. The French thriller, written and directed by Besson, features a protagonist seeking redemption through his bond with dogs. Starring Caleb Landry Jones and others, Dogman premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival and received a wider theatrical release in 2024.

As fans await further updates on the Lucy spinoff series and Besson's latest film, Dogman, the filmmaker continues to explore diverse storytelling avenues beyond the realm of Lucy's superhuman adventures.
