LSU guard Last-Tear Poa was diagnosed with a concussion after suffering a hard fall Saturday night during the Tigers’ 75–67 win over Ole Miss in the SEC tournament semifinals in Greenville, S.C., the school said.
Poa fell and hit her head on the floor during the fourth quarter in a scary scene. She attempted to walk to the sideline with the help of teammates but stumbled in the process. She then was stretchered off the court and taken to a nearby hospital.
“She was just a little bit unresponsive, mostly is how I would describe it,” LSU coach Kim Mulkey said, via nola.com. “She could squeeze your hand lightly. She could tell you she could feel her legs, but she couldn’t really articulate good enough for you not to be afraid.”
Mulkey later said Poa’s CT scan came back “clean,” while the team reported that she had “movement and feeling throughout her body.” LSU reported late Saturday night that Poa was expected to be released from the hospital.
Before exiting the game, Poa scored five points and totaled four assists. She is averaging 5.0 points, 1.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game this season.
The No. 8 Tigers (28–4) will face No. 1 South Carolina (31–0) in the SEC tournament final on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN. South Carolina needed a buzzer beater to defeat Tennessee in Saturday’s other semifinal.
