LSU running back Trey Holly will not face an attempted murder charge in a February shooting that left two people injured, as reported by ESPN. A grand jury rejected the charge and instead charged Holly with one felony count of illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentality.
The incident occurred at Holly's apartment in Union Parish, Louisiana, on February 9. Holly turned himself in to the police shortly after the shooting. He maintained his innocence on social media, stating, 'I have been falsely identified, accused, and arrested. I am 100% innocent, and the people who know me can attest that this is not my character at all.'
Holly's attorney confirmed to ESPN that they plan to enter a not guilty plea to the new charge. Despite the legal proceedings, Holly's football career has also been in the spotlight.
In his freshman season in 2023, Holly played three games for LSU, accumulating 110 rushing yards on 11 carries. Notably, he scored a 67-yard touchdown against Army on October 21, where he totaled 91 yards in that game, earning him the SEC Freshman of the Week recognition.
A Louisiana native, Holly was highly regarded as the No. 4-ranked running back in the nation after setting the state's rushing record. His legal situation and the impact on his football career have garnered significant attention, with supporters and critics closely following the developments.
