Low-flying military jets leave locals terrified as they tear across Lanarkshire skies

Two low-flying military fighter jets tore through the skies above Lanarkshire on Thursday night, leaving locals terrified.

The US Air Force jets left hundreds of residents "frightened" and 'jumping out their skin' as they passed across the region just after 5.30pm.

Others took to social media to say they thought "we were under attack," with some even thinking a plane was hurtling to the ground.

According to tracker apps, the jets were 'American F15s' and were flying at around just 1200ft, heading south of the border.

One concerned resident posted: "As people were saying, they sounded really low.

"I thought they were landing nearby.

"Couldn't see them but certainly could feel the thrust of the engines.

"Surely that's not very safe to the public who seemed very alarmed? It would've only taken a slight mistake by the pilots and it would've been devastating to the public."

Another said: "Frightened this old pensioner, I can tell you.

"!Noise went on too long. Thought it was a plane in serious trouble."

And a Muirhouse resident said: "I seen and heard them I live in Muirhouse. They were flying very low over the towers, was scary."

Others joked: "I actually ducked in my living room," and "I thought they had skimmed my roof."
