Love Island viewers say the same thing as Jacques and new boy Jay clash

Love Island viewers were pretty underwhelmed as Jacques O'Neill clashed with new boy Jay Younger as he made a jibe at him.

A teaser had hinted things would get heated, but the drama was over before it had even begun.

Gemma Owen's ex wasn't exactly welcoming of the newcomer, and appeared to taunt him during a chat with the group.

Asking what he did for a job, he was quick to inform the bombshell that he was a rugby player as if he thought it would intimidate him.

Jacques asked him: "What do you do big boy?" to which Jay responded, looking awkward: "I work in finance as an investment analyst."

Clearly threatened by the arrival, Jacques then told him: "Do you? I play rugby lad."

Jay soon made a jibe at the Islander, making it clear he wasn't worried about stepping on anyone's toes.

He quipped: "You're a bit small for a rugby player, no?" to which Jacques responds: "Oh really? hey, if you properly run at me I'll flatten you lad, so..."

Jacques pulled a face and scoffed, with Jay replying: "I don't see it happening..."

Meanwhile, the other Islanders all gasped and watched on as the moment escalated, as the girls were heard responding to the dig.

But things cooled down pretty quickly, which left viewers feeling underwhelmed.

Taking to Twitter, viewers shared their disappointment over the argument, as Jay said there was "no beef" but that Jacques seemed "p****d off" at him.

One viewer tweeted of the scenes: "I thought the Jay and Jacques encounter would be more interesting."

A second fan commented: "Me thinking there would be drama between Jacques and Jay."

Another viewer commented: "I thought Jacques was going to have some proper beef, so underwhelming."

Others picked up on how "confrontational" Jacques seemed, as he was clearly threatened by the new bombshells.

Love Island airs every night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
